I recently commiserated with a friend who runs a small business about the challenges of balancing the day-to-day work of keeping current customers happy with efforts to create new business. Amidst all the buzz about social media as the new way to create interest, this person is feeling a sense of urgency to get in the game, yet she’s still in need of a website makeover. My suggestion: Invest time and effort into the site first, then dive in wholeheartedly with other tools. To do otherwise would be like getting snazzy new software for a clunky old computer; always put first things first.
